SimER Impacts

The Impacts component calculates the impacts of interest to the user. These are based on the time-dependent calculated concentrations, amounts or fluxes of contaminants in the system, with both the land uses and habits of receptors taken into account.

The component allows the user to specify endpoints and impacts of interest and to specify how these depend on contaminant amounts, concentrations or fluxes. The component also include models for calculating a range of impacts for inhomogeneous distributions of radionuclide contaminants.

Typical endpoints that can be examined include:

  • release rates of contaminants from the contaminated areas;
  • average concentrations of contaminants in surface media, subsurface strata and wastes;
  • maximum concentrations of contaminants in groundwater;
  • maximum concentrations of contaminants in surface media and wastes;
  • average and maximum radiation dose rates across the site; and
  • radiation doses to specified exposure groups.

Sample output are shown below (please click to view).

0

Calculated concentrations of H-3 (Top Left), Nb-94 (Top Right) and U-234 (Bottom) in Rock Strata.
