SimER Executive

SimER takes its input from a number of text-based input files. Some of the main functions of the Executive can be summarised as follows:

  • It stores information on contaminants and materials (e.g. details of radioactive decay chains). This information is available for use by any component.
  • It provides powerful facilities for the use of parameters. SimER uses the term parameter to encompass a wide range of concepts - anything that can have a value assigned to it is a parameter in SimER. The Executive enables storage, communication, manipulation of units and the prescription of expressions (algebraic formulae) for parameters. The capability to check the consistency of parameter units automatically provides an important quality assurance check on the consistency of model expressions.
  • It provides the overall framework to control the solution of the governing equations by the SimER components (each of which uses its own solver).
  • It provides a simple user interface and capabilities for manipulating model outputs.

The figure below illustrates the overall structure of SimER and the main function of the Executive (please click to view).
