SimER Components

The SimER code consists of three types of component:

  • the Executive, which controls all of the other components;
  • the System Evolution components that represent the evolution of the system with time; and
  • the Process components to model various processes that affect the behaviour of contaminants in the environment and their potential impacts.

SimER also contains a Viewer to enable visualisation of model outputs.

Function

Executive

Executive Controls all of the other components
External Scenario Description System Evolution Manages information on the evolution of the system environment
Landscape System Evolution Manages information on the landscape and its evolution
Engineering System Evolution Manages information on the geometry and physical status of the engineering structures
System Gridder Process Produces the process grid for use by the Process components
Inventories Process Manages information on the initial distribution, disposals and remediation of contaminants and other materials of interest
Water Flow Process Provides a broad representation of variably saturated groundwater flows
Transport Process Models the transport of contaminants and other materials in the gaseous, liquid and solid phases
Physical and Chemical Evolution Process Models the physical and biogeochemical evolution of the system
Gas Flow Process Represents the transport of bulk gas
Human Activities Process Manages information on human behaviour
Impacts Process Calculates chosen endpoints and evaluates impacts
Viewer Post-processing Enables 3D views of model outputs to displayed and line graphs of parameters against time to be plotted
