Mark Willans

Mark Willans is a technical specialist with 20 years of experience in the nuclear industry with BNFL and Westlakes Scientific Consulting (WSC). Mark has carried out many environmental assessments, with experience ranging from modelling Sellafield marine and aerial discharges and resulting exposures to west Cumbrian families involved in litigation, through to designing and implementing biosphere models for the 2002 Drigg Post-Closure Safety Case. He has also carried out assessment work on contaminated land at other sites such as Sellafield, Clifton Marsh Landfill and Lake Karachay in Russia and has been recently involved with the development of the RADCONTAB and ReCLAIM tools for assessing contaminated land at Nuclear Licensed Sites.

Mark has a BSc in Physics and a PhD researching the mathematical modelling of ion (radiotracer) uptake in bone. He is a Member of the Society of Radiological Protection and, as a biosphere technical expert, is a key member of BIOPROTA (international workshops for dealing with biosphere modelling issues).
