Ed Henderson

Dr. Ed Henderson is a hydrogeologist with 22 years experience.  Ed’s principal areas of expertise are groundwater flow, contaminant transport and hydrological processes.  Experience has included work on the hydrology and hydrogeology of the Sellafield and West Cumbria LLWR sites.

Ed’s experience includes ten years within the nuclear industry (with BNFL, Nexia Solutions and the NNL), four years in consultancy outside the nuclear industry and eight years in university-based research (for UK Nirex and the European Commission).

Ed’s main role in the NNL is to provide expertise in hydrogeological and hydrological aspects of site characterisation and risk assessment.

Recent experience has included the design and installation of a system of groundwaterand river water level monitoring sensors at Sellafield, the design and operation of groundwater monitoring at Sellafield and hydrological investigations at the LLWR in West Cumbria, the technical review of models of groundwater flow in and around the LLWR and the interpretation of patterns of groundwater contamination at Sellafield.  In 2009/2010, Ed was also a member of the LLWR elicitation group providing expert opinion on the future performance of engineered barrier systems at the LLWR.

Ed is a Chartered Scientist, a Fellow of the Geological Society and a member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) and the British Hydrological Society (BHS).
