Andras is an environmental modeller and risk assessment specialist. He joined NNL (then BNFL) in 1997, and during the last 13 years he has worked on projects directly supporting waste disposal and contaminated land assessments for nuclear licensed sites, including areas of quantitative risk assessment, safety case preparation and the assessment of remediation technologies. Prior to joining BNFL he worked for a hazardous landfill site in Hungary as a consultant engineer and carried out research in the area of leachate management at the University of London. Andras has a BSc in Chemical Engineering, MSc in Environmental Sciences and PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
During his career, Andras has developed considerable experience in the application of software tools to assessing source release, groundwater flow, contaminant transport and impacts/risks in the geosphere and biosphere. In addition to his expertise in risk assessment for nuclear licensed sites, Andras is a specialist in modelling and performance assessment of engineered barrier systems. This expertise has been recognised in recent roles representing NNL as a technical specialist on international collaborative programmes on Engineered Barrier Systems with the NEA and the USDOE.
Andras’ other areas of expertise include assessment of remediation technologies for radioactively contaminated land and environmental assessments.
