Alan Wareing is a radioactive waste inventory specialist who has been working for nineteen years in the nuclear industry, initially for BNFL as a technical analyst and currently for the National Nuclear Laboratory as a technical specialist.
Alan has worked on a wide variety of projects directly supporting the UK Radioactive Waste Inventory, overseas-customer waste returns and waste disposal and contaminated land assessments for nuclear licensed sites. He has been a key technical lead for the compilation of the radioactive and chemotoxic waste inventory for the 2002 Drigg Post-Closure Safety Case and for subsequent projects supporting the Low Level Waste Repository (LLWR) in West Cumbria. In addition, between 2002 and 2006, Alan co-ordinated and led Nexia Solutions’ technical input to the LLWR modular vaults project.
Throughout this work Alan has developed a good working knowledge of LLWR site operating procedures and working instructions, the LLWR Authorisation and Conditions for Acceptance.
Alan has also led a key project for the NDA, assessing the impact of future UK LLW arisings on existing and potential disposal facilities and developing strategy for the its future management. More recently, he has used his knowledge and experience to extend this work to encompass strategies for the management and disposal ILW and spent nuclear fuel for a number of key NDA customers.
Alan has a HND in computing and systems analysis and is a full member of the Association for Project Management, having qualified to Level 1.
