A number of Nexia Solutions personnel actively participate in national and international organisations and fora aimed at developing best practice environmental guidance, regulatory interfaces and representing our customers.
You can find a summary of our many affiliations below.

SAFEGROUNDS
SAFEGROUNDS is a nationally recognised forum for developing and
disseminating good practice guidance on the management of
radioactively and chemically contaminated land on nuclear and
defence sites in the UK.
Peter Booth of Nexia Solutions resides on both the Steering Group and overriding Project Team.

MCERTS
The MCERTS performance standard for the chemical testing of soil is
an application of ISO 17025:2000 specifically for the chemical
testing of soil and covers:
Chemical test data on soils is used by the Environment Agency to support their regulatory activities under a number of regimes, such as Part IIA of EPA 1990, Pollution, Prevention and Control (England and Wales Regulations) 2000 and Waste Management Licensing Regulations 1994.
MCERTS provides assurance to all stakeholders (e.g. laboratories, Local Authorities, consultants, members of the public) of the reliability of data from such tests.
Dr Candida Lean of Nexia Solutions is a member of the MCERTS Steering Committee.

IAEA
The International Atomic Energy Agency is the world's centre of
nuclear co-operation and works for the safe, secure and peaceful
use of nuclear technologies.
Nexia Solutions regularly provide support to the IAEA in terms of technical chairmanship or support to international workshops, often as the UK representative. In addition, Nexia Solutions has supported the IAEA on technical missions around the world. The subject areas covered are varied but generally underpin radioactive waste disposal, repository siting, contaminated land appraisal and decision making or stakeholder engagement practices.
In particular, Nexia Solutions have participated over a number of years in the IAEA's programmes on Improvement of Safety Assessment Methodologies for near-surface disposal facilities (ISAM) and on Application of Safety Assessment Methodologies for near-surface radioactive waste disposal facilities (ASAM).
Dr Len Watts of Nexia Solutions is a co-ordinating group member and working group leader for the ASAM programme.

NICOLE
Leading European network that promotes co-operation between
industry, academia and service providers on the development of
sustainable technologies for contaminated land management.
Dr Divyesh Trivedi represents Nexia Solutions at NICOLE.

Soil and Groundwater
Technology Association (SAGTA)
SAGTA is an organisation of industry landowners who are actively
managing their landholdings. The member companies represent a
significant proportion of the UK's industry landholdings with
representatives from sectors including Nuclear, Defence, Energy,
Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Minerals, Waste and Regeneration.
Dr Candida Lean of Nexia Solutions is a member of the SAGTA Steering Group.

CL:AIRE
An incorporated company, charity and environmental body,
Contaminated Land Applications in Real Environments (CL:AIRE)
facilitates the development of cost-effective methods of
investigating and remediating contaminated land in a sustainable
way.
Dr Candida Lean of Nexia Solutions has links with CL:AIRE via SAGTA.

BIOPROTA
Key issues in biosphere apects of assessment of the long term
impact of contaminant releases associated with radioactive waste
management.
Dr Mark Willans of Nexia Solutions is a prominent member of BIOPROTA.

IIG
The Inter-Industry Group (IIG) on Contaminated Land and Site
Closure issues reports to the Nuclear Industry Safety Directors
Forum and thereby act as the means by which the nuclear industry:
reviews and feeds back experience in practical implementation of SAFEGROUNDS guidance into the SAFEGROUNDS Learning Network.
Peter Booth is Nexia Solutions representative to IIG.

Nuclear Energy Agency
(NEA)
The Nuclear Energy Agency is a specialised agency within the
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), an
intergovernmental organisation of industrialised countries. The NEA
aims to maintain and develop scientific, technological and legal
bases required for the safe, environmentally friendly and
economical use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Nexia
Solutions participate regularly in NEA activities and projects
relating to the management of radioactive waste, including on
various aspects of performance assessment and safety cases
(scenario development, treatement of uncertainties, modelling,
confidence building), sorption, thermodynamic databases and
engineered barrier systems.
Dr Len Watts of Nexia Solutions is a member of the Integration Group for the Safety Case, the main technical advisory body to the NEA's Radioactive Waste Management Committee.
